Clara Maria Sophia Ranfeld

Clara Ranfeld, 95 of Montezuma passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at Grinnell Regional Medical Center in Grinnell. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 A.M. Friday, March 2, 2012 at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Deep River, Iowa. Visitation will begin at noon on with the family present from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma. Burial will be in the Jackson Township Cemetery at Montezuma. Memorials may be directed to the Calvary Lutheran Church in Deep River, Iowa.

Clara Maria Sophia Ranfeld, 95, daughter of John and Anna (Sticht) Schlesselman, was born on September 30, 1916 in Lincoln Township, near Victor, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Victor. She was a charter member of the Calvary Lutheran Church in Deep River. In 1935, she was married to Cloyd Johnston. To this union one son was born, Harvey Johnston. On January 17, 1946 she was married to Mern Ranfeld. They farmed near Deep River and Montezuma until his death in 1987. She belonged to the LWML Ladies Aid, Busy Bees and Pleasant Ridge Clubs and enjoyed gardening, sewing, doll making and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two husbands, Cloyd Johhnston and Mern Ranfeld, her sons Harvey Johnston and Larry Ranfeld, her daughter-in-law Mabel Muck, her brothers; Martin, Albert, Walter and Raymond Schlesselman.

She is survived by her children: Inez (Don) Scott of Brooklyn, Merna (Douglas) Duffus of Grinnell, Sylvia (Marvin) Waline of Brookyn, Glenn and Donna (Ranfeld) Ratcliff of Newton, Melvin (Mary) Ranfeld of Deep River and Randy (Mary) Ranfeld of Montezuma; twelve grandchildren: Rick (Julie) Scott of Audubon, Randy (Kay) Scott of Tucson, AZ, Julie (Matt) Ryan of Marengo, Kathy (Dustin) Langreck of Blairstown, Jane Waline of Victor, (friend Mark Westphal of Millersburg), Karen (Michael Turczak) Buhr of Council Bluffs, Mark (Tammy) Ranfeld of Carlisle, Craig (Candace) Ranfeld of Grimes, Cheri (Doug Hayes) Ranfeld of Des Moines, Alicia (Eric) Hasley of Grinnell, Dianna (Jason) Bryan of Jefferson and Rachel Ranfeld (friend Tommy Posey) of Montezuma; fifteen great-grandchildren: Megan and Ryan Scott, Logan and Hayden Scott, Amanda, Max and Colette Franks, Luke, Grace and Hannah Ryan, Emily Waline, Noah Buhr, Raegan Ranfeld, Miguel Ranfeld, Ethan Hasley, and many friends and relatives.
