Aleta De Hoedt Barnes City. Aleta De Hoedt, 80 of Barnes City passed away Saturday, March 6, 2010 at the West Ridge Care Center in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held in the West Liberty Cemetery in rural Montezuma. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Barnes City Fire Department or the Barnes City Methodist Church.
Aleta Maxine De Hoedt, daughter of Burton and Ella (Beason) Stanford was born on March 29, 1929 in Montezuma, Iowa. She was a 1946 graduate of Montezuma High School. Aleta was united in marriage to Robert De Hoedt on September 5, 1949 in Grinnell, Iowa. To this union one son was born, Russell. Robert and Aleta farmed in the rural Barnes City area for 60 plus years. Aleta loved to take care of animals. She was a very outgoing person and had a passion for helping people. Aleta enjoyed gardening, crocheting, playing cards, collecting glassware and going to sales. In her younger years, she enjoyed riding her horse, Black Velvet in horse competitions. Aleta was a member of the Barnes City Methodist Church, the What Cheer Saddle Club, the Barnes City American Legion Auxiliary and a 50 year member of the Forest Home Club.
Her memory was honored by her husband of 60 years, Robert De Hoedt of Barnes City; her son, Russell (Zelda) De Hoedt of Cedar Rapids and two granddaughters, Amanda and Elizabeth De Hoedt both of Cedar Rapids.
Aleta was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Doris Loving.
Aleta was a very kind person. She loved her family and was very proud of her 2 granddaughters. She will be missed.
