Alexis Long, 28 formerly of New Sharon passed away Tuesday morning, July 21, 2026 at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City. A Celebration of Life will begin at 10:30 am Thursday, July 30, 2026 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in New Sharon. A visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Wednesday, July 29, 2026 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in New Sharon.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Iowa School for the Blind or the Stephen's Animal Shelter in Oskaloosa. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of New Sharon is in charge of arrangements.

Alexis Jade Long, the daughter of Steve Long and Shari (Briney) Plate, was born on June 27, 1998 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. She graduated from North Mahaska High School with the class of 2017. Lexi was diagnosed with a brain tumor at six months old and had it removed a couple different times. At a young age, she lost her sight and attended the School for the Blind in Vinton for several summers. It was a great opportunity for her that held camps along with several activities before it eventually closed. Lexi was strong-willed and determined and following high school she attended Braille school in Des Moines where she lived. She then moved to Ames and enrolled in Massage Therapy School. She enjoyed swimming, fishing, playing any kind of card games, crafts, painting, she loved animals and above all her family.

Her memory will be cherished by her mother, Shari (Craig) Plate of Kimberling, MO; her father, Steve (Terri) Long of New Sharon; her siblings, Tyler (Selena) Long, Brandon Plate, Brandy Plate, Nick Welch, Jake (Amanda) Welch and Danielle (Ning) Xayakoummane; maternal grandmothers, Karen Briney of Kimberling, MO and Darlene Plate of Arizona; paternal grandmother, Miola "Pic" Lanphier; special friend, Caelan Swope along with 11 nieces and nephews and many friends.

Alexis was preceded in death by her maternal grandfathers, Bill Briney and Gene Plate; her paternal grandparents, Marvin and Connie Long and paternal grandfather, Paul Lanphier.
