Arnout Dunnick, 86 of Barnes City passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at the UnityPoint Grinnell Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at the New Life Fellowship in New Sharon. Burial with military rites will be held in the Barnes City Cemetery in Barnes City. Visitation will begin after 12:00 pm Monday, August 12, 2024 at the New Life Fellowship with the family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the New Life Fellowship, the Montezuma Ambulance or the Barnes City Cemetery Association. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of New Sharon is in charge of arrangements.

Arnout Stevens Dunnick, the son of Isaac Arnout & Helen Marie (Axmear) Dunnick, was born on October 7, 1937 near Gibson, Iowa. He attended Keswick School, moving to Barnes City in 1952. He was a 1955 graduate of Barnes City High School. Arnout enlisted with the United States Army Reserves in 1955-1963 and was stationed in Ft. Jackson, South Carolina for basic training. On September 20, 1962, Arnout was united in marriage to Janet Arlene Van Maanen at the First Reformed Church in Sully. To this union five children were born, Susan, Sharon, Shelly, Steven and Sharlene. They lived in Pella for six months before beginning their married life farming in Poweshiek County, moving down the road to the family farm in Mahaska County in 1966 where they farmed until Arnout retired in 2008. They have remained on the farm after their retirement. Arnout enjoyed his life of farming and was the conservation farmer of the year in 1972. His other interests included traveling with the camper and photography. He passed many of these interests on to his children and took many trips with his family. He is also a member of the New Life Fellowship of New Sharon.

Arnout's legacy will be cherished by his wife of 62 years, Arlene; his children, Susan (Monte) Upton of New Sharon and daughter, Bailey (Jacob) Sherburne and step daughter, Nickole Upton and her sons, Jack, Luke and Sam; Sharon (Randy) Van Dusseldorp of New Sharon and their sons, Travis (Jess) Van Dusseldorp, their son, Lenny and Trevor Van Dusseldorp, Shelly (Roger Van Ersvelde) Dunnick of Victor and son, Eric Robertson, Steven (Nancy) Dunnick of Barnes City and their children, Michael Dunnick and Stacia Dunnick and a step son, Jeff Innis; Sharlene (Jody) Pothoven of New Sharon and children, Amanda (Mike) Johnston and their son, Jason, Andy (Morgan) Pothoven, Adam (Megan) Pothoven and their children, Hayden, Blair and Archer, a step daughter, Nicky (Brad) Ross and their children, Keaton, Wesley, Karsen and Addilynn; one brother, Everett Dunnick of Sun City West, AZ; his two sisters, Mary(Jack) Heberlein of Quartz Hill, CA and Nellie (Keith) Schmidt of Ankeny; his six brothers-in-law, Walton Van Maanen of Lynnville, LeRoy (Ruth) Van Maanen of Grinnell, Gilbert Van Maanen of Dallas Center, Dennis (Linda) Van Maanen of Kellogg, Rodney (Bev) Van Maanen of Lynnville and Dale (Ruth) Van Maanen of Lynnville; four sisters-in-law, Dorothy Van Maanen of Grinnell, Marilyn Van Maanen of Sully, Karen (Frank) Van Soelen of Sully and Shirley (Melvin) Uitermarkt of Leighton and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Arnout was preceded in death by his parents; his sister and brother-in-law, Ruth (Jack) Tipton a brother, Isaac Arthur "Junior" Dunnick; three sisters-in-law, Olivia Dunnick, Ada Van Maanen and Violet Van Maanen and two brothers-in-law, Marvin Van Maanen and Norman Van Maanen,
