Betty Snook, 77 of Montezuma passed away Saturday morning, December 7, 2024 at home under hospice care. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am Friday, December 13, 2024 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma. A private burial will be held in the Sixteen Cemetery near Thornburg. Visitation will begin after 12:00 pm Thursday, December 12, 2024 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home with the family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Betty Snook Memorial Fund and will be used for a scholarship for the Montezuma School District. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of Montezuma is in charge of arrangements.

Betty Ann Snook, the daughter of Harry and Elizabeth (McCulley) Acord, was born on August 9, 1947 in Oskaloosa, Iowa.  She graduated from Montezuma High School in 1965 with 72 students. On June 25, 1965, Betty was united in marriage to Edward Snook. To this union two daughters were born, Brenda Lea and Neva Ann. She was a homemaker for a couple years to raise her daughters before babysitting until her daughters started school. In 1975, Betty began working as a janitor at the Montezuma School district retiring in 2004 after 28 years.

When Betty's daughters were in Junior High, she helped with the concession stand and her highlight was when little kids brought their quarter up to get tootsie rolls for a penny and she would give them 25 in a baggie. In 1995, Betty was privileged to chaperone the first band trip to Winnipeg Canada for the Canada Band Festival. She enjoyed bowling for over 30 years, watching sports especially girls 6 on 6 basketball, camping, gardening, playing cards, Cribbage, attending the Poweshiek County Fair to watch her three grandsons, Alex, William and Joe, show their livestock along with supporting her granddaughter, Serena, with all of her activities and running around chasing her great grandchildren, Quinn Ann and Liam John. Betty was a faithful member of the Deep River Christian Church where she was currently serving as President.

Her legacy will be honored by her daughters, Brenda (Don) Peck of Montezuma and Neva (Allen) Gregory of Montezuma; grandchildren, Alex Peck, Joe Peck, Serena Gregory and William Gregory; her two great grandchildren, Quinn Ann and Liam John; her brothers-in-law, Warren Smith, Eldon (Reca) Snook and Roy (Kathy) Snook and her sister-in-law, Patricia (Marvin Evans) Snook along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward Snook in 2014; her sister, Marvel Smith; her brothers-in-law, Willis (Phyllis) Snook, Floyd (Joan) Snook, Donald Snook and Keith Snook and her sisters-in-law, Gladys (Keith) Arthur, Francis (Don) Shillenger, Lucille (Walt) Tish, Betty (Marion) Van Dee and Ellie Snook.
