Carolyn Woods, 88 of Montezuma, passed away Monday afternoon, May 20, 2024 at the Mahaska Health Partnership Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am Saturday, May 25, 2024 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma. Burial will be held in the Masonic IOOF Cemetery in Montezuma. Visitation will begin after 2:00 pm Friday, May 24, 2024 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home with the family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm to greet friends and relatives. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Montezuma Blue and White or the MHP Hospice Serenity House. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of Montezuma is in charge of arrangements.

Carolyn Louise Woods, the daughter of Oral and Geneva Davis, was born on January 21, 1936 in Montezuma, Iowa. She attended country school near Montezuma before graduating from Montezuma High School in 1954. On December 27, 1959, Carolyn was married to Gary Woods in New Sharon. To this union two daughters were born, Christy and Missy. They later divorced. Carolyn stayed busy being a farm wife, working at the Poweshiek County Courthouse, making pizzas at Casey's and was rural mail carrier. She then worked at the Montezuma Community School where she started out as a custodian and then became the head cook.  She loved her time at the school and loved to visit with all of the kids especially her grandkids. Carolyn most recently spent a lot of her days volunteering at Three Sisters Fabric where she helped with anything they needed but mainly visited with the customers. In June of 1999, Carolyn met her special companion, Phil Grier. Carolyn enjoyed sewing, camping, playing cards, dancing, listening to country music, having coffeetime and visiting with people. She loved her family and cherished the time she was able to spend with them. She looked forward to all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren's activities. Carolyn camped over 60 years at the Iowa State Fair making it a family destination in the summer. She was a member of the Montezuma United Methodist Church, Crazy Cutups Sewing Club and a quilt club.

Her legacy will be cherished by her daughters, Christy (Gus) Kaisand of Grinnell and Missy (Mark) Eilander of Montezuma; her six grandchildren, Kyle Earley, Monica (Ryan) Hudnut, Mollie (Ryan) O' Dell, David Earley, Kara (Jake Wright) Eilander and Ashlee Eilander; her five great grandchildren, Easton Hudnut, River Earley, Nolan Hudnut, Greyson Hudnut and Irie Hudnut; along with her special companion for nearly 25 years, Phil Grier and all of the Grier family.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Oral and Geneva Davis.
