Catherine Kiner, 95, of Sigourney and formerly of What Cheer died Saturday, July 29, 2023, at the Manor House Care Center in Sigourney. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in What Cheer. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am Saturday and last until the time of service. Burial will be in the Sixteen Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at the Methodist Church in What Cheer following the graveside service. In remembrance of Cathy and in lieu of flowers, her family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the Keokuk County Fair, an organization close to her heart, continuing her tradition of supporting community events.

Catherine (Cathy) Alberta Kiner, a cherished and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and community stalwart, peacefully departed this world on July 29, 2023, at the Sigourney Manor House in Sigourney, Iowa. Born on September 18, 1927, in rural What Cheer, Iowa, Cathy was the beloved daughter of Joseph and Audrey Thomas. She was blessed with 95 years of life, during which she touched the hearts of all who knew her. Cathy's life was a beautiful tapestry of love, family, and community service. Her journey of love began when she met the love of her life, Charles (Chuck) R. Kiner, at a horse show in Lynnville, Iowa. Their bond grew stronger over time, leading them to unite in marriage on September 29, 1961, in a beautiful ceremony in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Though Cathy has joined her beloved husband, Chuck, in eternal rest, the love they shared continues to shine brightly through their children and grandchildren. Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Audrey Thomas, as well as her son Danny McKinney, daughter Stacy, and daughter Tracy. She also joins her sister Virginia Thomas and brother Joseph Gene Thomas in the embrace of heaven.

Cathy's legacy of love lives on through her surviving daughter, Keely (Douglas) Fowler of Saint Robert, Missouri, and her sister, Patsy Albert of Sigourney, Iowa. Her memory is further carried by her grandchildren: Dustin (Trena) Kiner of Crocker, Missouri; Kyle (Ajani) Fowler of Lebanon, Missouri; Keysha Fowler of Saint Robert, Missouri; Alexander (Ashley) Fowler of Independence, Missouri; Danita Arrington of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Treasa (Marty) Dalton of Des Moines, Iowa; Tanya Lovejoy of Oskaloosa, Iowa; Joe McKinney of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and Jay McKinney of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Cathy's life has been enriched with many great-grandchildren, each a testament to the love she shared with her family. Cathy's love for her family extended beyond the confines of her home. She had a passion for horses and instilled that passion in her loved ones. Cathy was often seen at horse shows and parades across Iowa, including the Iowa State Fair, proudly cheering on her children and grandchildren. Her presence at events like the What Cheer Flea Market, horse shows, parades and races were also a familiar sight, as she selflessly contributed her time to ensure their success.

Though she may be gone from our sight, Cathy's love and spirit will forever guide and inspire us. May her soul find eternal peace in the loving arms of the divine.

As we bid farewell to Cathy, we hold tight to the memories of her love, kindness, and generosity. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth and compassion that will forever be cherished in the hearts of her family, friends, and community.
