Charles Henry, 78 of Deep River passed away Sunday afternoon, November 12, 2023 due to injuries sustained from a farm accident while checking his cattle.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023 beginning at 10:30 am at the Community Hope Church in Montezuma.  Burial will be held at the Barnes City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 17, 2023, beginning at noon with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. at the Community Hope Church in Montezuma.  Memorials may be directed to the Montezuma Fire Department, the Deep River Fire Department or the Barnes City Fire Department. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of Montezuma is in charge of the arrangements.

Charles Wilfred Henry was born on August 24, 1945 to Edward and Josephine Van Ersvelde Henry at Brooklyn, Iowa.  Charles was one of ten siblings.  He helped his father on the family farm and attended and graduated from Montezuma High School in 1963.  When he was a senior in high school, he started renting land from Ed Sanders and continued farming it for over 50 years. Charles was united in marriage to Beverley Hauersperger on July 12, 1969 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grinnell.  They became the parents of their son, Gary. Charles enjoyed both slow and fast pitch ball at Barnes City.  He helped with Little League while Gary played.  He also enjoyed watching sports, was an avid Hawkeye fan, attended many stock car and drag races, and men's coffeetime.  Charles loved his family and always attended his grandchildren's events. He was a hardworking man that learned everything on his own. Charles was also a member of the Barnes City Co-op Board.

His memory will be honored by his wife, Beverley Henry of Montezuma; his son, Gary (Sarah) Henry of rural Deep River; his grandchildren, Zachary (Jessica Knoll) Henry and Lindsey Henry; a great granddaughter, Josephine-Anne Henry; his siblings, Donald (Janice) Henry of Montezuma, Barbara (Roger) Flander of Grinnell, Donna Conklin of Orlando, Florida, Agnes Henry (Jeff Martin) of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Michael (Diane) Henry of Barnes City and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter-in-law, Kathy Phillips Henry; and his siblings, Edward Henry, David Henry, Nancy Henry and a brother in infancy, Ronald Henry.
