Charlie Williams, 95 formerly of Newton and Deep River, passed away Sunday morning, May 25, 2025 at the English Valleys Care Center in North English. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 pm Sunday, June 1, 2025 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma. Burial with military rites will be held in the Golden Rod Cemetery in Deep River. Visitation will be held from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm at the funeral home on Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Bible Missionary Church in Newton, Morrison-Schrader American Legion Post 296 in Deep River or the English Valleys Nursing Home and may be sent to the Holland-Coble Funeral Home; In Care of Charlie Williams; P.O. Box 727; Montezuma, Iowa 50171. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of Montezuma is in charge of arrangements.

Charlie Allen Williams, the son of John and Eliza (Gill) Williams, was born on January 4, 1930 in Blythe, Iowa. He attended school at Rose Hill before graduating from Montezuma High School with the class of 1948. Charlie was drafted by the United States Army where he was a cook and served a short time with his brother, Mick. Following his honorable discharge, Charlie moved back to the Deep River area and farmed until 1980 along with working a few years at Amana. He then worked as a Night Watchman at Grinnell College before becoming the custodian there for 15 years retiring in 1995.

Charlie enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling with longtime girlfriend, Hester Fleming. He was a member of Bible Missionary Church in Newton where he was very active and enjoyed Bible Study. He was also a member of the Morrison-Schrader American Legion Post 296 in Deep River.

He is survived by his niece, Susan Stull of Webster and nephews, George (Donnette) Williams of Greencastle, IN and Roger Icenbice of Keswick along with many other friends and relatives.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, John and Eliza Williams; two brothers, James Richard Williams and John "Mick" Williams Jr.; a sister, Martha Icenbice; a nephew, James Leon Icenbice; a niece, Sharon Williams; a nephew-in-law, Mark Stull and a niece-in-law, Clara Icenbice.
