Coleen McGriff, 103 of New Sharon went to be with her Heavenly Father Tuesday evening, August 18, 2020 at the Mayflower Care Center in Grinnell. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am Friday, August 21, 2020 at the New Sharon United Methodist Church. Burial will be held in the Friends Cemetery in New Sharon. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the New Sharon United Methodist Church. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of New Sharon is in charge of arrangements.

Ada Coleen McGriff, the daughter of Charles and Mary (Ratliff) Ladd, was born on February 10, 1917 in Lynnville, Iowa. In 1929, the Ladd family moved to New Sharon. Coleen graduated from New Sharon High School in 1935 and attended the University of Iowa in 1937 for a year. She then received her teaching certificate from William Penn and taught at country school in rural Browntown for nearly 10 years. Coleen was united in marriage to Lowell McGriff on November 15, 1941 at the Methodist Parsonage in Milan, Missouri. To this union four children were born, Jim, Coralou, Allan and Mike. Following the war, Lowell and Coleen moved to a farm east of New Sharon where they lived for over 45 years. Coleen was a farmer's wife and also substitute taught for many years at North Mahaska High School. Coleen was an active member of the New Sharon United Methodist Church and served with the United Methodist Women for over 50 years. She especially loved attending to her asparagus bed and vegetable garden, reading, cooking and baking and above all the cherished time she was able to spend with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and attending all of their activities.

Coleen's legacy will be remembered by her children, Jim (Marla) McGriff of New Sharon; Coralou Lundon of Cedar Rapids, Allan (Vickie Kinman) McGriff of New Sharon and Mike (Cathy Mather) McGriff of New Sharon; her grandchildren, Cary (Amy) McGriff, Kevin (LaRayne) McGriff, Brett (Kellie) McGriff, Ryan (Lacey) McGriff, Ben (Amy) Lundon and Chris Lundon; 10 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren; her sisters, Mary Lou (Richard) Runyon and Barb Simpson and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mary Ladd; her husband, Lowell McGriff; her son-in-law, Frank Lundon and her brothers, Bob (Delores) Ladd, Max (June) Ladd and Richard (Carolyn) Ladd and a brother-in-law, Ray Simpson.
