Colleen Ferguson, 93 of New Sharon passed away Wednesday afternoon, January 4, 2023. A Memorial service will begin at 11:00 am Monday, January 9, 2023 at the McVay Center in New Sharon with a luncheon to follow the service. Burial will take place in the Union Mills Cemetery at Union Mills following the luncheon. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm Sunday, January 8, 2023 at the McVay Center in New Sharon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the New Sharon United Methodist Church. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of New Sharon is in charge of arrangements.

Colleen Dolores McNeal Ferguson, the daughter of Lee and Mary (Williams) McNeal was born on August 1, 1929 in New Sharon, Iowa. She graduated from New Sharon High School in 1947. Following graduation, Colleen attended Iowa State Teachers College, formerly known as UNI, in Cedar Falls receiving her Elementary Teachers Diploma. On August 4, 1951, Colleen was united in marriage to William L. Ferguson at the New Sharon United Methodist Church. To this union a son was born, Grant. Colleen taught Kindergarten and 1 ^st grade at Barnes City Community School and Montezuma Community School for ten years before becoming a farmer's wife. She enjoyed helping Bill out on the farm and raising their son, Grant. Colleen had a special place in her heart for her family and loved to cook a 10-course meal with all the fixings and bake cookies for her grandsons. She also enjoyed every sports activity that her son and grandsons were involved in. She was a member of the New Sharon United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for several years. Colleen was also an active member of the Iowa Angus Association Ladies Auxiliary, a charter member of Prairie Knolls Country Club and a 4-H leader in Mahaska County for several years.

Her memory will be honored by her husband of 71 years, William Ferguson of New Sharon; her son, Grant (Jayne) Ferguson of New Sharon; her grandsons, Levi (Katelin) Ferguson and Dawson Ferguson; her great granddaughter, Lennon Ferguson; her brother, Don McNeal and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Colleen was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Mary McNeal and her siblings, Alvetta Dodd, Laverna Rice, Virgil McNeal, Nelly Johnston, Esther Hildebrand, George McNeal and Jim Fred McNeal.
