Connie Long, 79 of New Sharon passed away Tuesday morning, January 10, 2023 at the Mahaska Health Partnership Serenity Hospice House in Oskaloosa. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 pm Friday, January 13, 2023 at the McVay Center in New Sharon. Visitation will begin after 12:00 pm Thursday, January 12, 2023 at the McVay Center in New Sharon with the family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to MHP Hospice Serenity House.

Carolyn "Connie" LaVon Long, the daughter of Willard and Dorothy (Eddy) Stoneking, was born on March 1, 1943 in Morris, IL. She graduated from Marengo High School in 1962. Connie was a waitress and cook in a small restaurant in Marengo where she met Marvin Long. On October 2, 1960, Connie and Marvin were married in the United Methodist Church in Marengo. To this union five children were born, Jeffrey, Deb, Jim, Steve and Bryan. Marvin and Connie lived in the Marengo and Belle Plaine areas where they farmed. They purchased a farm near Searsboro where they continued to farm. Connie worked several years as a waitress and cook at the Montezuma Sale Barn. She also worked at Bond's Café in New Sharon, Hometown Café in Montezuma, Blooming Endeavors Flower Shop in Montezuma and retiring from Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance as a cook. She was involved in Girls Scouts in New Sharon for over 32 years. Connie also loved riding and showing horses, trail riding, her big garden and her flowers. She was a 4-H horse superintendent for Mahaska County for over 20 years and a member of the Union Mills Christian Church.

Her memory will be cherished by her children, Jeffrey (Mary) Long of New Sharon, Deb (Jim) Staples of Henryetta, OK,  Jim (Tanya) Long of New Sharon, Steve (Terri) Long of New Sharon and Bryan (Jolene) Long of Eddyville; 16 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Connie was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Marvin Long.
