Dale Johnson, 87 of New Sharon died peacefully at his home in New Sharon Sunday, February 26, 2023. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am Thursday, March 2, 2023 at the New Sharon United Methodist Church. Burial will be held in the Highland Cemetery in New Sharon. Visitation will begin after 12:00 pm Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in New Sharon with the family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Donna Johnson and will go towards future sponsorships at Prairie Knolls Country Club for inspiring golfers or to Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of New Sharon is in charge of arrangements.

Forrest Dale Johnson, was born on January 15, 1936 to Lewis and Thurma (Bond) Johnson at home in Poweshiek County. Dale married Velda Martens Bybee in 1960, adding two daughters to his family: Deb (Dave) German and Terri Meland both of New Sharon. To this union four more children were born: Julie (Chris) Widmer and Brenda (Greg) Watts both of Montezuma and Scott Johnson of Oskaloosa and Michael Johnson now deceased. Dale then married Donna Rankin Howard on October 16, 1993, adding four more sons to his family:Jeff (Karla) Howard, Randy (Jacque) Howard, Tony (Mary) Howard all of Oskaloosa and Chad Howard of New Sharon.

Dale was always a wanderer, never living in one place more than five years at a time, until marrying Donna. He held various jobs before owning Johnson T.V. & Appliance in Oskaloosa. One of his favorite jobs was an over the road driver with Gary Junkins Trucking. In retirement, he taught a truck driving course at Indian Hills Community College and worked at the hardware store in Montezuma. He was an avid golfer until poor health forced his retirement from the sport and he loved old western movies; reciting them word for word.

Also surviving is his brother, Leland "Bud" Johnson and a sister-in-law, Angela Johnson both of California, a sister-in-law, Carolyn Melcher of Omaha and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, a great-great grandchild, several nieces, nephews and friends.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael (aged 14 in 1985); sister, Letha Mae Davis; a brother, Dennis Johnson; a  brother-in-law, Steve Rankin and Mike Melcher and a daughter-in-law, Pam Howard.
