Daniel Olson, 34 of What Cheer, died Friday, January 31, 2025 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Daniel James Olson was born September 10, 1990 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. After attending Sigourney High School, he began working for WC Gretter. Daniel later worked for Leer Tiling and most recently for Breneman Pork. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and racing two-man cruisers with his brother, Stephen. Daniel loved working on races cars. He demonstrated his best managerial skills while sitting on a bucket giving his dad and brother advice. He was a gentle giant who possessed a strong work ethic and never shied away from hard work. Because of his easy-going nature, Daniel never knew a stranger. He was very nonjudgmental and accepted the fact no one is perfect. This made it easy for him to make friends and would help anyone. As a child growing up, he was given the nickname, "Damn It Dan". His ornery nature made it easy for his to torment his mother until she was frustrated. Once he realized he was close to being in trouble he would save himself by giving her a big strong hug. Dan had a soft spot in his heart for animals. He absolutely loved driving around on his John Deere Gator with his three loyal basset hounds: Hazel, Walter and Mable. Dan will be remembered as a simple man who respected his mother and cherished a strong bond with his brother. He was preceded in death by his father, Brad Olson; and his grandparents, Jim and Betty Adams and Darrell and Doralene Olson. Daniel is survived by his mother, Vicki Olson; four brothers, Stephen (Tassa) Olson, Eric (Caitlyn) Olson, Matt (Lacy) Olson, Jeff (Nichole) Olson; his sister, Shelly (Rush) McKain; ten nieces and nephews; as well as his three loyal friends, aka "Dans Kids": Hazel, Walter and Mable.
