Darrin Yilek, 47, of Delta, died Wednesday, August 24, 2022. A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, August 28, 2022, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in What Cheer. Burial will be held privately. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the family.

Darrin Lee Yilek was born July 18, 1975, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the only son of Debra (Davis) Polson and Art Yilek. Losing his father at an early age, Deb remarried, and Darrin gained a step father, Quintin Polson. Darrin battled childhood leukemia and survived. Often, he referred to his life in terms of "before leukemia" and "after leukemia, his second chance at life". He was united in marriage to Jennifer Souer on May 20, 2000, in Delta, and chose to make it their home.

Darrin enjoyed family time and holidays. He always made them interesting with his creative and sometimes challenging gift-wrapping skills. He was an avid wrestling fan and watched it faithfully. He also enjoyed playing video games and collecting, in particular, hot wheel cars and wrestling memorabilia. Darrin was a talented artist and loved drawing in his free time, often gifting his work to family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and grandparents, Marvin and Joyce Yilek and Vernon and Erma Lou Davis.

Darrin is survived by his wife, Jennifer Yilek; a sister-in-law, Patti (Duane Boer) Bown; two nephew, Alex Bown and John Boer; his stepfather, Quintin Polson; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.
