Dennis Bouma, 80, of New Sharon, passed away Wednesday evening, September 30, 2026, at his home in New Sharon under hospice care. A Celebration of Life/Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, October 6, 2026 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in New Sharon. Clifford Dennis Bouma, the son of Harvey Clifford and Beulah “Boots” (Iosbaker) Bouma, was born on July 25, 1946, in Grinnell, Iowa. He graduated from Lynnville-Sully High School with the class of 1964. On October 16, 1964, Denny was united in marriage to Kathleen Brubaker in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Following high school, Denny began working for Elscott Construction, where he built pole barns and houses. He eventually put his talents to work as a cabinet maker. Denny was a wonderful craftsman and later began building furniture out of their home in Lynnville. In the early 1980s, Denny and Kathy started D & K Collectibles out of their garage in Lynnville. In 1985, they moved the business to New Sharon. Denny and Kathy took great pride in their business, traveling to numerous flea markets, having a booth at the Iowa State Fair, and delivering throughout Iowa and many other states.

Denny was a man of grace who truly enjoyed giving back to his community. For many years, he played Santa Claus for the New Sharon community. He also created a huge Halloween display in his yard and loved handing out candy and having children bob for apples on “Trick or Treat” night. Denny served on the Lynnville Volunteer Fire Department while living in Lynnville and was a member of Prairie Knolls Country Club. He also drove bus for the North Mahaska School District. Denny enjoyed many outdoor activities, including coon hunting, trapping, trout fishing, and golfing. He and Kathy especially enjoyed their trout-fishing trips to Northeast Iowa, as well as camping at the Iowa State Fair for more than 25 years.

Denny will be remembered for his craftsmanship, generosity, sense of community, and the many ways he brought joy to those around him. His love for Kathy, his family, and his community was evident throughout his life, and the memories he created will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.

Denny’s legacy will be honored by his wife, Kathy Bouma of New Sharon; children, Chris (Carolyn) Bouma of Ellington, MO and Lisa Boyd of New Sharon; three grandchildren, Jessica (Gunnar) Ross of New Sharon; Reece Bouma of Springfield, MO and Briley Bouma of Jefferson, MO; two great-grandchildren, Gavin and Colson “C.J.”; sister, Sandy Cornell of Montezuma; along with other family members and many friends.

Denny he was preceded in death by his parents.
