Dennis Zylstra, 75, of Lynnville, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at the Montezuma Specialty Care in Montezuma.  Memorial services will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024 at the Lynnville Friends Church in Lynnville beginning at 10:30 am.  Burial will be held in the Woodland Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 15, at the FCC Building in Lynnville beginning at noon with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family to be determined at a later date.

Dennis Alan Zylstra was born on November 22, 1948 in Oskaloosa, Iowa to Ludolph and Joann Lanser Zylstra.  He attended school at Sully Christian and Lynnville-Sully.  On December 20, 1968, Denny was united in marriage to Dorothy (Dot) Lewis at the Christian Reformed Church in Sully, Iowa.  To this union two children were born, Kara and Matthew.  Denny worked construction and drove truck for many years.  He worked for Lynnville Seed Company and Poweshiek County before opening Lynnville Repair, which was later taken over by his son.  Denny enjoyed working and restoring vehicles and race cars, building stick bird houses and other houses and businesses.  He enjoyed watching his kids and grandkids.   Denny was a member of the Lynnville Friends Church, Lynnville Lions Club and also served as Lynnville Mayor. Denny loved everyone, everyone loved him, and he was a wonderful friend to many.

Denny's memory will be honored by his wife, Dot, of Lynnville; his children, Kara (Joel) Vander Beek of Pleasant Hill and Matthew (Heather) Zylstra of Lynnville; grandchildren, Noah (Ashley) Zylstra, Lakewood, Co., Sage Zylstra, Lynnville, Shykira Baarda, Pleasant Hill, Camden Baarda, Pleasant Hill, Lily Zylstra, Lynnville, and Teryn and Jaxden Vander Beek, Pleasant Hill; great grandchildren, Eleanor  and Murphy Zylstra, Lakewood, Co.; brother, Terry (Linda) Zylstra, Steger, Ill.; sisters, Fonda (Dave) Benson, Grinnell and Joani (Norvel) Hasley, Hiawassee, Ga.; brother-in-law, Don (Shirley) Lewis; sisters-in-law, Millie Van Solen and Phyl (Bruce) Beierle;  and many other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Karma Lisk; and his in-laws, Dean and Retha Lewis.
