Dixie Marlene Markun, 70, of Montezuma, passed away Sunday, September 3, 2023 at the UnityPoint Grinnell Regional Medical Center, after a courageous battle with cancer and pneumonia. As was Dixie's wish, her body will be cremated and no services are planned. She will be buried next to her parents at the Jackson Township Cemetery in Montezuma. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of Montezuma is in charge of arrangements.

Dixie was born September 13, 1952 in Des Moines, Iowa, to Ralph and Lottie (Clark) Wambsgans. She was a proud graduate of East High School, and attended many reunions. She worked as a CNA in hospice care because she "was born to take care of people".  She loved nature and flowers, but her joy in life was her son, grandchildren and her constant companion, dog Winston, whom she was rarely seen without. She was a member of the Easton Place United Methodist Church before transferring her membership to the Montezuma United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her only son, Andrew (Dawn) and 2 grandchildren, Hadleigh and Logan. She was formerly married to Charles Markun, the father Andrew.

Dixie was preceded her in death by her parents and brother Donald Wambsgans.
