Don Hall, 91, a man of faith, family and integrity left his home in Montezuma for his Heavenly home on Wednesday afternoon, December 23, 2020 at the Montezuma Specialty Care. A private family funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at the Jackson Church of Christ in Montezuma. Burial will be held in the Jackson Township Cemetery in Montezuma. Visitation will be held Monday, December 28, 2020 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home. According to the rules put in place by the Iowa Department of Public Health, proper social distancing and appropriate personal protective equipment will be required for attending this public event. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Good News Production Inc. (a technology-focused ministry that shares the gospel of Jesus Christ to remote global locations) or the Montezuma Food Pantry. Holland-Coble Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Donald H. Hall, born the third child of Glen and Madeline (Speeter) Hall, was born on November 6, 1929 at the family farm home northwest of Brooklyn, Iowa. He attended Madison #9 rural school for eight years and on to Grinnell High School graduating in 1947. He then farmed with his dad. In July of 1949, he married the rural school teacher, Joyce Rempp, who taught his younger brother at Madison #9. In the fall they moved to Wheatland, Wyoming where Don began his construction career at a lumber yard and soon was building houses. Due to family illness, they moved back to Iowa in 1951, where Don worked on a farm for a couple of years before renting his own place south of Montezuma. It was there in July of 1953, his wife contracted polio, losing use of both of her legs. He lovingly cared for her in so many ways. Moving to a farm northwest of Monte, Don branched out into carpentry jobs to provide for their growing family. In 1964, he built their house on their land west of Montezuma. Don continued putting up houses in the area after getting the dealership for Wausau Homes. In 1972, he bought more land on the west side of Montezuma where the Hallmark addition became home to some thirty families and the Montezuma Nursing Home took shape. Some years later, Don and his backhoe were busy, especially at Lake Ponderosa, putting in septic systems. Don served the town as a councilman from 1970 to 1991. He then was on the board of the local Power and Light Company from 1993 until he resigned in 2013 due to his failing health. He was also a long-time member of Farm Bureau.

The church was always a priority in Don's life. He was instrumental in building the church house and parsonage of the Jackson Church of Christ of which he was a charter member. Come Sunday he faithfully took his family to morning and evening worship services. To share with missionaries proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ was a highlight for him. Through the years he served as Sunday School teacher, deacon and elder. Don had a servant heart and he endeared himself to many with his kindness, quiet manner and willingness to help others wherever the need.

He leaves many happy memories to his wife, Joyce of 71 years; seven children, Cyndy Smith of Stockbridge, GA, Becky (Jim) Bilbro of Shelbina, MO, Shari (John) McWilliams of Montezuma, Karen Murillo of Montezuma, Rick (Cathy) Hall of Indianapolis, IN, Rhonda (David) Steele of Washington and Jeff (Melanie) Hall of Urbandale; his 19 grandchildren who brought fun to the Hall Hill, Paul Smith, Jason, Chris and Jeff Bilbro, Jade, Ciara and Alexa Murillo, Scott, Gabe, Austin and Will Hall, Shannon, Paige and Colin Steele, Macy, Wesley, Bryce, Elyse and Lindsay Hall. Nothing made Don happier than having his family come home, and many were those fun days. An extra bonus to his life were 20 great-grandchildren and he was blessed to spend some time with them.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Norman and his wife Frances Hall; a sister, Miriam and her husband Ernie Andes and brothers-in-law, Bill Rempp and Marvin Klein.

He is survived by a sister, Carol Klein; a brother, Jack (Kathie) Hall; a sister-in-law, Marjorie Rempp, a special family friend, Ken Smith and many nieces, nephews and friends.
