Dorotha Bond, 94 of New Sharon passed away peacefully Friday afternoon, December 23, 2022 at the Mahaska Health Partnership Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 pm Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at the New Sharon United Methodist Church. Burial will be held in the Friends Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 12:00 pm Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at the New Sharon United Methodist Church with the family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm to greet friends and relatives. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the New Sharon United Methodist Church. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of New Sharon is in charge of arrangements.

Dorotha Belle Bond, the daughter of Herman and Mildred (Whicker) Smith, was born on August 23, 1928 in Centerville, Iowa. She attended school in Des Moines before graduating from New Sharon High School in 1946. Dorotha worked a short time at Mahaska Hospital as a receptionist before she was married. On October 4, 1947, Dorotha was united in marriage to Harry Bond in New Sharon. To this union three children were born, Catheleen, Diana and Harry Jr. "Bud".  Dorotha was a homemaker before working for Dr. Phelps as his receptionist. Harry and Dorotha also owned and operated the New Sharon Star for several years. Following their retirement from the paper, Harry and Dorotha enjoyed wintering in Arizona. She enjoyed playing cards at Prairie Knolls Country Club, socializing, taking care of her self and getting her nails done. She could play the piano and organ by ear. She loved to sing, having big family dinners and reading books to her grandchildren. Dorotha also sold Avon for many years. She was a member of the New Sharon United Methodist Church, the U.M.W. holding several offices, the Red Hat Ladies, Prairie Knolls Country Club and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Her legacy will be honored by her children, Diana Bair of New Sharon, Cathy (Dale) LaRue of New Sharon and Bud (Cheryl) Bond of Park Rapids, MN; eight grandchildren, Jason (Tammy) LaRue, Chris (Tonya Fife) LaRue, Lori (Travis) Beyer, Angela (John) Livezey, Stacia (Matt) Burns, Lindsa (Justin) Snyder, Brad (Andrea) Bond and Michelle Bond; 26 great grandchildren, 17 great-great grandchildren; her sister, Elaine (Chuck) Gray of California; two sisters-in-law, Karen Smith of California and Linda Smith of Alexandria, Minnesota and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Dorotha was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harry; her son-in-law, Dave Bair and three brothers, William (Sally) Smith, Frank Smith and Phillip Smith.
