Dorothy Braaksma, 92 of Oskaloosa and formerly of Montezuma, passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa. A graveside funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 28, beginning at 10:30 am at the Pleasant Township Cemetery in Ewart, Iowa. A visitation/luncheon will follow the service at the Community Hope Church in Montezuma.  Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association.  Holland-Coble Funeral Home of Montezuma is in charge of the arrangements.

Dorothy Louise Braaksma was born on November 11, 1931 to Kenneth and Geneva Hockey Tish at Montezuma.  Dorothy attended and graduated from Montezuma High School in 1949.  Dorothy and Gysbert "Bud" Braaksma were married on December 26, 1949.  They became the parents of four children, Bonita, Wanda, Dennis and Kenton.  Dorothy was devoted to raising her family and began working when Kenton entered school. She worked at the DeLong Jacket Factory for the next 20 years.  Family was very important to her and she also enjoyed gardening, canning, quilting, sewing, camping and traveling.

Dorothy is survived by her children; Bonita Primley of Ladora, Wanda Braaksma of Cedar Rapids, and Kenton Braaksma of Runnells; her daughter-in-law, Sandra Braaksma of Nevada, Missouri; her grandchildren, Jennifer (Doug Kriegel) Halverson, Nicholas (Michelle) Vande Berg, Brandy Escher, Amy Braaksma, Shaun (Alexandra) Braaksma, Roberta Gillam, Samantha McDowell, Elizabeth Bunker and Thomas Dale; numerous grandchildren; her brother, Laverne Tish; and many other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gysbert; her son, Dennis Braaksma; siblings, Pauline Vincent, Dale Tish and Beulah Upah.
