Elaine McCulley, 99, of Brooklyn, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at the Brooklyn Community Estates. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 28, 2020 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in What Cheer, Iowa beginning at 10:00 am. Burial will be held in the Sixteen Cemetery near Thornburg. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 27, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in What Cheer, Iowa, with the family present. Memorials may be directed in Elaine's name to Essence of Life Hospice. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of What Cheer is in charge of arrangements.

Elaine McCulley was born on November 29, 1921 near Deep River, Iowa, the daughter of Marion and Matilda Churky Furney. She was the youngest of eight children. She attended a country school east of Deep River and finished grade country school at Lincoln Number 6, south of Ladora. Elaine was united in marriage to Raymond Martin at Lancaster, MO. on August 8, 1937. To this union two daughters were born, Janice and Connie. Elaine was united in marriage to Donald "Runt" McCulley on June 27, 1955 at the Methodist Church in Unionville, MO. and they became the parents of Glenda. Elaine stayed with her father in Deep River, worked at the Moore's turkey plant and worked in many homes doing house work until she was married in 1955.  Elaine enjoyed reading her Bible, getting her Tilton Missionary lessons done, reading the What Cheer paper and cutting out quilt blocks. Elaine and Donald also enjoyed sitting under the shade tree on their farm and watching the traffic go by. Elaine and Donald moved from their farm in 2002, to the Brooklyn Senior Apartments and later to the Brooklyn Community Estates.

Elaine is preceded in death by her husband, Donald; her parents, her daughter, Janice; four sisters and their spouses: Hazel and Ray Moore, Marseilles, IL., Bessie and Harold Langbehn, Green Mountain, IA., Velma and Homer Wilson, Keswick, IA., and Marge and Charles Van Dee, Williamsburg, IA.; three brothers and their spouses: Clarence and Leona Furney, Deep River, IA., Harvey and Minnie Furney, Cedar Rapids, IA., and Leo and Mildred Furney, Keswick, IA.

Elaine is survived by two daughters, Connie (Raymond) Thompson of Montezuma and Glenda ((Fred) Griffith of Brooklyn; eight grandchildren, Tina Widmer, Sara Alexander, Tami Foubert, Rodney Morse, Jake Thompson, Crystal Griffith, Chance Griffith and Trixy Petsche. Elaine also leaves behind 19 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren and many other friends and relatives.
