Frances Evelyn Carl was born August 18, 1923 to Peter and Verna (Peterson) Seaborg in Montezuma, Iowa.  She passed away January 7, 2021 at Newton Village in Newton, Iowa at the age of 97.

Frances attended country school with her older sister Alene and graduated from Montezuma High School in 1940 at the age of 16.  After high school Frances worked with her grandmother in Montezuma until 1943, when she and her sister Alene took the train to San Diego, CA to help with the WWII effort.   From September, 1943 to March, 1944 Frances worked for Ryan Aircraft fabricating sheet metal parts for the B24 liberator bombers built by Convair Aircraft.  Later in 1944 she moved to Omaha and worked on B29s at the Martin bomber plant.  When the war was over, she stated, "We just basically walked out.  Out of a job".  After the war, Frances went to beauty school and had a beauty shop in Montezuma with her younger sister Helen.

On June 5, 1951 Frances married Cloyd Carl in Montezuma. They enjoyed 43 years of marriage until his death on October 13, 1994.  Frances and Cloyd were blessed with two children, Lynn and Jan Carl. An excellent cook, baker, seamstress, gardener, and provider to her family, Frances took her role as wife, mother, grandmother, homemaker and friend very seriously. She was deeply loved by her immediate and extended family and held a place in her heart for each member. Frances' face always brightened upon learning a new baby had joined her ever-growing family and lit up even more when she held those babies.

Frances was active in the Montezuma United Methodist Church for many years, including the United Methodist Women's group.  She belonged to the Montezuma Mother's Club.  Frances became a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in 1948 and most recently the American Rosie the Riverter Association.  Spending time in Canada and Minnesota fishing with family was one of her favorite hobbies.  She loved to travel in her later years with her sister Maxine.

Frances is survived by her daughter Jan Carl (Gene Harper) of Arvada, CO, and their two daughters Olivia (Connor) Ringgenberg and Janene Harper (Nick Pietrack), both of Newton, her son Lynn Carl's children Scott, Kevin (Monica), Kerri Carl of Montezuma, seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, and her brother-in-law Richard Stewart.  Many nieces and nephews, extending to great, great-nieces and nephews, and cousins also survive Frances.

Frances is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Cloyd, her son Lynn Carl, her sister Alene Stewart, her sisters Maxine Lafrenz and Helen Doster and their husbands Don and Russell.
