Gerald "Gerry" Montgomery, 89, of New Sharon, IA passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family and friends at his home on April 18, 2026. At this time he will be cremated and as his wishes, no services will be held. In lieu of the flowers, donations can be made to Holland-Coble Funeral home in New Sharon, IA or the Serenity House in Oskaloosa, IA. Gerry proudly served his country in the United States Navy for four years, an experience that remained an important part of his life. He was united in marriage to Sonia Knoke in 1960 in Nashua, Iowa. Following his service, he spent many years working as a truck driver, often putting in long hours on the road, and was also deeply connected to farming, often working alongside his sisters. He took pride in hard work and the simple, honest way of life that came with it.

He enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially hunting with his crossbow and riding his four-wheeler. He was also known for making the best pancakes, a simple joy that brought family and loved ones together. These moments brought him peace and happiness, and he cherished the time spent with those closest to him.

Gerry will be remembered for his funny sense of humor and the laughter he shared with those around him. He had a way of bringing smiles to others and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his sons, Craig (Luann) Montgomery and Scott Montgomery; his daughters, Joni (Jerry) Metcalf and Tammy (Jose) Rivera; his 2 sisters, Judy Mitchel and Irene Fuller, and a sibling. His grandchildren, Heidi, Kristie (BJ), Ryan, Adam, Tiffany, Bryan (Val), Tiara (Jordan), Falynn, Chelsea (David), and Faith; 16 great-grandchildren; and a special family friend Terry McQueen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Mary; his wife, Sonia; his father-in law and mother-in law, Jessie and June Knoke, his brothers and sisters, John, Richard, Les, Junior, Chuck, and Joellen; a grandson-in law Raymond Hard and his special friend, Danny Krusemark, and many others.
