Gina Freeborn, 62 of Montezuma passed away Tuesday afternoon, January 31, 2023 at her home near Montezuma under hospice care surrounded by her family. A Celebration of Life will begin at 10:30 am Saturday, February 4, 2023 at the Community Hope Church in Montezuma. A visitation/luncheon will be held after the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pink Tractor Foundation; which is a non-Profit Organization raising money to help local families fighting any and all types of cancer. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of Montezuma is in charge of arrangements.

Gina Lynn Freeborn, the daughter of Carroll Hershberger and Sherri (Richardson) Hershberger, was born on September 6, 1960 in Washington, Iowa. She graduated from Montezuma High School in 1979. Following graduation, Gina attended Northwest Missouri State in Kirksville, MO before receiving her Medical Lab Technician Certificate from a nursing school in Minneapolis, MN. On June 30, 1984, Gina was united in marriage to Jim Freeborn. To this union a son and twin girls were born, Kyle, Kayla and Katie. Gina worked a couple of years for the Grinnell Regional Medical Center before going to work for James B. Paulson at the Montezuma Medical Clinic. She was the office manager and Lab Technician for 31 years and was privileged to work alongside some of her longest and dearest friends. Gina also kept busy working part time at Supervalu in Montezuma and most recently Vivarium Coffeeshop in Montezuma where she adored associating and getting to know all of her customers especially the school kids that came in. Family was the most important thing to Gina and she always looked forward to going to a ballgame, school activity or anything her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews were involved in. She also spent many hours coaching her daughter's AAU Basketball teams and hosting her kid's friends at their house as they referred to her as Momma G. Gina liked being in warm weather and enjoyed going to beaches, swimming in the ocean and going on family trips. She also was an avid St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan and served on the Montezuma School Board for a couple terms.

Her legacy will be honored by her husband, Jim Freeborn of Montezuma; her children, Kyle (Haley) Freeborn of Johnston, Kayla (Bobby) Hayes of Norwalk and Katie (Bryan) Leitzinger of Norwalk; four grandchildren, Payton Hayes, Aiden Leitzinger, Reagan Leitzinger and Harrison Freeborn; her father, Carroll Hershberger of West Liberty; her mother, Sherri Hershberger of Montezuma; her siblings, Lori (Kelly) Bryan of Montezuma, Kevin (Teresa) Hershberger of Des Moines and Debbie (Tim Brenner) Hershberger of Montezuma and many other nieces, nephews and friends.

Gina was preceded in death by her father, James Stalder.
