Gregory Simmons of Barnes City passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at the MercyOne Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.  A celebration of life and luncheon will be held on Saturday, September 19 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Barnes City Quonset in Barnes City, Iowa.   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be designated to the MercyOne Cardiac CCU.  Holland-Coble Funeral Home of Montezuma is in charge of arrangements.

Gregory Allan Simmons, 64, of Barnes City, Iowa was born on March 8, 1956 to Derrell and Janite Coatney Clark at Centerville, Iowa.  He attended schools in Centerville and Spencer. Greg began driving a semi at the age of 18 only in Iowa and later drove in all 48 states.  He drove a semi for Wehrle Trucking in Lynnville 23 years, retiring in 2017.  Greg was legally blind in one eye and was proud of the fact that he had never had an accident.  He enjoyed living in Barnes City, was known as the town watchman, and waved at everyone that went by his home.  He kept up on the town's activities, loved riding his Harley, keeping it polished, and went on many poker runs and benefit rides.  Greg would help anyone and would give you the shirt off his back, and it would certainly have been a Harley shirt.

Greg is preceded in death by his mother, Janite Coatney Clark.

Greg is survived by his father, Derrell (Sue) Clark of Barnes City; his sisters,  Beth Hanson of Montezuma, and Tammy (Randy) Baysinger of Arnold's Park; his brothers, Dennis ( Jane) Clark of Rochester, Mn., Lewis Clark of Gillett Grove, Marvin (Shana) Clark of Barnes City, and Mike (Jeanne) Clark of New Sharon; eight nieces and nephews, and twelve great nieces and nephews.
