James Lynn Calvert, 79 died on July 16, 2026 at the Serenity House in Oskaloosa. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, August 8 at 10:00am at Sixteen Cemetery in What Cheer. Following the service, the family invites friends and loved ones to join them for a luncheon at the American Legion in Keswick. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Keswick American Legion.

Jim was born on September 8, 1946 to Harold and Ava (Seaton) Calvert. Jim grew up on a farm between Keswick and What Cheer. He graduated from Edgewood high school near Denver, Colorado. We moved back to Iowa immediately after. Jim joined the Air Force in 1965 and served until 1972. He served in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, North Dakota, Northern Michigan, Greenland, and Vietnam.

After leaving the USAF he purchased a RadioShack franchise and ran it for seven years. After that, he owned and operated a construction company with his brother Frank. He then worked as an electrician at Automatic Systems Inc. in Ames, Iowa until his retirement at age 78 2024. Jim spent most of his free time researching family genealogy, enjoyed Astronomy and exploring caves with his nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister-in-law, Darla Calvert.

He is survived by his siblings; Jan (Ernie) Beck, Frank Calvert and Alva (Karen) Calvert along with nephew, Kevin McNeal, nieces Monica (Brian) Lillis, Melinda (Graig) Eichenberger, step-niece Shanna (Brian) VanWeelden) step-nephew, Matt Yerington and 9 great-nieces and nephews.
