James Ferguson, 86, of Overland Park, KS, and formerly New Sharon, IA, passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2022 in Overland Park.

Jim was born on March 8, 1936 in rural Union Mills, Iowa.  He was the son of Cope and Gladys Shoemake Ferguson, one of six boys.  He attended McMains Country School and graduated from Lacey High School in 1955.  After high school graduation, Jim worked for neighbor farmers for several years before attending William Penn College and the University of Southern Mississippi.  He joined the Army Reserves after college and returned to the family farm.  He was united in marriage to Nancy Johnson on September 11, 1964 at the Montezuma Methodist Church.  Three children were born to this union, Wade, Lex, and Amy.  Jim's life work included farming, a salesman for Moorman's Feed, owning and operating Ferguson's Construction, and working at Gold's Gym Tennis Club.  He played and coached fast pitch softball through the age of 65.  Jim was an avid sports fan of the Hawkeyes, Royals and Chiefs.  His favorite sporting events were those of his kids and grandkids. He also enjoyed gardening and was a well-known master gardener. He enjoyed hunting, golfing, canning, showing cattle, coaching sports for several little league teams, and most of all, coaching his own children.  Jim also served as an Elder/President of the Board at Union Mills Disciples of Christ Church.

Jim is survived by the love of his life for 58 years, his wife, Nancy; his children, Wade, Lex, and Amy (Chad) Miller; his grandchildren, Chelsee (Clayton) Holden, Stephani (Stew) Timm, Cory (Kathryn) Ferguson, Alexis (Eric) Joblinske, Raquel Trolliet, and Tess Miller; great grandchildren, (his favorites), Bexton, Remsley, and Halstyn Timm, Ada Ferguson, Cash Holden, and Milo Joblinske; brothers, Robert, William, and John Ferguson; special family, Colette Ferguson, Tammy Vandaveer, Quinn Carlson, and many other relatives and special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Earl and Gerald, parents in-law Carmon and Hazel Johnson, and two brothers-in-law.

Celebration of Life and visitation will be held at Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma, IA on October 8 ^th from 4-7pm.  Family will be present.  A private burial will be held.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Oskaloosa Lightning Little League Baseball Team in honor of his great grandson, Bexton Timm.  Holland-Coble Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
