James Greiner, 71 of What Cheer died Saturday, August 26, 2023 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. As were his wishes his body has been donated to science and funeral arrangements will be held privately at a later date.

James Michael Greiner was born May 9, 1952 in Wayland, Iowa the son of Edmund and Mina Olson. After attending Sigourney High School Jim enlisted in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1976. He held many positions over the years, most recent being, the former mayor of What Cheer.

He was proceeded in death by his parents; a brother, Jospeh Greiner; and a sister, Jean Schaffer.

Jim is survived by a special friend and the love of his life, Kay Wilkening; his sister, Jennifer (Lee) Short of Deep River; a son, Shannon (Tandy) Greiner of Bullard, Texas; three grandchildren: Courtney, Justin, and Jacob; four great-grandchildren: Ryder, Colton, Allison, and Adeline.
