Mike White, 74, passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at his home near What Cheer.  A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in What Cheer from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.  Burial will be held at a later date in the White Oak Cemetery.  Memorials in Mike's name may be directed to the family.  Holland-Coble Funeral Home of What Cheer is in charge of the arrangements.

James Michael White was born on June 28,1948 to James Jr. White and Ruth T. White in Oskaloosa, Iowa.  He was  raised on a farm northeast of Thornburg.  He attended school in Thornburg, Gibson and What Cheer, graduating in 1966.  After graduation, Mike went to work for Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids until he was drafted into the Army in 1968.  After being discharged, he returned to work at Collins until being laid off.  He then attended the University of Iowa for three semesters and worked various jobs until returning to What Cheer and buying the Champlin service station in 1977.  He was also a member of the Army Reserve during this period.  In 1984, he sold the station and returned to active duty for the Army as a recruiter for nine years and a career advisor for two years, retiring in 1996 with 28 years of service.  After leaving the Army, he immediately started to work for Kinze Manufacturing and worked there for 14 years before retiring.  He was very hard working, loved to cook, garden, can and hunt wild asparagus.  On August 3, 1984, Mike was united in marriage to Rita Dugger.

Mike is survived by his wife, Rita of What Cheer; his sister, Ann L. Heisdorffer of Kansas City, Ks., his brother, Patrick (Floy) White of Keswick; his sisters-in-law, Patricia ((Mike) Williams of Thornburg, Glennace Kearns of Marengo and Lisa (Marvin) Cheney of Deep River; four nephews, five nieces, eight great nephews, four great nieces and one great- great niece, as well as many other relatives and friends.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents.
