Joseph Hoopes Sr. 86 of Lindenhurst, IL passed away Sunday, September 9, 2018 at the Village of Victory Lakes in Lindenhurst, IL. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 am Saturday, September 15, 2018 at the Sully Community Church in Sully. Burial will be held in the Friends Cemetery in Lynnville. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday, September 14, 2018 at the Sully Community Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's-Dementia research via Alzheimer's Association or to honor his love of animals by supporting AHeinz57 Pet Rescue. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of Montezuma is in charge of arrangements.

Joseph Charles Hoopes Sr., the son of Charles and Alice (Gold) Hoopes, was born on March 19, 1932 in Wilmington, DE. He attended and graduated from a catholic school in Wilmington, DE. Following high school graduation, Joseph served his country with the United States Navy from 1952 to 1953. On November 21, 1965, Joseph was united in marriage to Roberta Stanley. They lived in the Chicago area and he worked for Cahners Publishing for 30 years retiring at the age of 65 in 1996. During his tenure, Joseph won numerous sales awards including the top salesman awards several times. Following retirement, they moved back to Iowa and lived on the Stanley family farm near Searsboro where he loved to garden and travel. Joseph was a member of the Sully Community Church. In 2016, Joseph and Roberta back to the Chicago area to be closer to family.

His memory is honored by his wife, Roberta Hoopes of Lindenhurst, IL, a son, Joseph Charles Hoopes of Antioch, IL; three daughters, Ann-Marie Lynne Condo of Antioch, IL, Dana Ann Dale of Macon, GA and Tracy Doherty of Macon, GA; seven grandchildren; several great grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Eachus and Joan Stoltzfus and many other relatives and friends.

Joseph is preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Nancy Michele Edwards.
