Joyce McCullough, 90 of Deep River, passed away Monday morning, September 18, 2023 at the Manor House Care Center in Sigourney. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 am on Thursday, September 21, at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma.  Burial will be held in the Golden Rod Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 20, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm with the family present at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Essence of Life Hospice.  Holland-Coble Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Joyce Elaine McCullough, the daughter of Bryce and Ruth (Morrison) Worrall, was born on October 15, 1932 at Aldrich, Mn.  She attended school at North English and graduated in 1950.  While in high school, Joyce played basketball and had to walk over five miles one way to practice.  Joyce was united in marriage to Allan McCullough on July 23, 1953, at the Little Brown Church is Nasua, Iowa.    While Allan was in the military, Joyce worked at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids for two years.  After Allan's return, they moved to their farm in Deep River.  They became the parents of Susan, Steven, and Mark.  Joyce was a very active farmer's wife.  She checked on livestock, drove the machinery and also a four-wheeler.  She provided many meals at the field along with raising and caring for the children.  She helped in any way that was needed.  Joyce enjoyed sports, the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs, watching soap operas, her artistic drawings, cooking and feeding everyone who walked through the door.  She enjoyed keeping tabs on the farming operation on a daily basis and was very hands on and loving with the grandchildren.  They will always remember their grandma playing outside with them in the winter and building snowmen.

Her unwavering strength, and unbreakable resilience were put to the ultimate test with the heartbreaking loss of two children, Susan at age 40 and Steven at age 62.  She still remained an inspiration to all who knew her.

Her legacy will be honored by her son, Mark (Mary) McCullough of Deep River; nine grandchildren, Cassie Glandon (boyfriend, Breck Brown), David McCullough, Hayley (Tyler) Guffy, Joe McCullough (girlfriend, Alyssa Pierce), Bridget (Nick) Grimm, Jackie (Kyle) Faaborg, Jodi (Roger) Cheney, Travis (Sara) Schmidt, and Brianne (Anthony) Forbes; 19 great grandchildren; her siblings, Bob (Joan) Worrall of Indiana and Charlotte Conger of Kansas; as well as many other relatives and friends.

Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Allan; her children, Susan Schmidt and Steven McCullough; her siblings, Leighton Worrall, Keith Worrall, Bryce Worrall, James Worrall, Shirley Jones and Phyllis Lighty.

Joyce will be joining her family in heaven as well as her long-time best friend Floy. They will be sharing stories and giggling. Floy will be able to make sure Joyce's hair looks just right for eternity.
