Kenneth Fayer, formerly of Montezuma, Des Moines and Deep River passed away on December 10, 2020 at Good Samaritan Center in Indianola, Iowa. His visitation will be on Tuesday, December 15 at 1 P.M. and funeral service at 2 P.M. at Holland- Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma, followed immediately with interment at the Ivy Hill Cemetery Malcom Cemetery. According to the rules put in place by the Iowa Department of Public Health, proper social distancing and appropriate personal protective equipment are advised for attending this public event. The service will be livestreamed on the Holland-Coble Funeral Home's Facebook page for those unable to attend the ceremony. Memorials may be directed to Jasper County Animal Rescue League. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of Montezuma is in charge of arrangements.

Kenneth Eugene Fayer was born July 15, 1932 near Montezuma, Iowa to Edward and Louise Collins Fayer. He grew up on the family farm located west of Montezuma which later became part of Lake Ponderosa. He attended Union Township School Number 6 and Montezuma High School before beginning a career working for various farmers and the Montezuma Elevator. Kenneth joined the United States Army on December 5, 1952. He served a tour of duty in Korea and rose to the rank of Sergeant. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with a Bronze Star, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He received an honorable discharge on September 18, 1954.

After being in the service, Kenneth returned to work at the Montezuma Elevator followed by a career in truck driving. He spent much of his life as a truck driver, first locally with Hedrick Trucking and then nationally, hauling throughout the Midwest and East coast. He also farmed for several years on his farm southwest of Montezuma. In later years, he and Jean moved to Des Moines. For the past 17 years, he has lived in Deep River. Kenneth married the love of his life, Jean Mann on December 12, 1955. This union was blessed by a son, Ronald Eugene (Kristy) and daughter, Nancy Sue. Kenneth had two step daughters: Linda Rae and Marvita McCown whom he loved and cherished as his own. He attended the West Liberty Church of Christ and the Presbyterian Church in Montezuma.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years (Jean Mann), his parents (Edward and Louise Collins Fayer), his step daughter (Linda Rae Sanders), a brother (Frank Fayer), two sisters (June Sheets and Dorothy Talbert) and a half-brother (Harold Tish).

He leaves behind to mourn his death a son, Ronald (Kristy), daughter Nancy Nunez (Duane Shimerda), step daughter Marvita McCown, sister Marjorie Stevens, brother Larry (Carol) Fayer, his special friend (Janet Rauch), eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren along with many friends and family members.
