Kenny Gauley, 90, passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at his home in Montezuma.  As was his wish, his body has been cremated. Memorial services will begin at 10:30 Saturday, November 25, 2023 at the First Presbyterian Evangelical Church in Montezuma. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial with military rites will be held in the Jackson Township Cemetery in Montezuma. Memorials may be directed to the Blakely Stevens American Legion 169, the Montezuma Fire Department or the First Presbyterian Church. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of Montezuma is in charge of arrangements.

Kenneth Eugene Gauley, was born on September 14, 1933, at Montezuma, Iowa to Thomas and Vada Doonan Gauley.  He attended and graduated from Montezuma High School with the class of 1952.  Kenny worked at a gas station before enlisting in the United States Army. Private First Class Gauley was stationed in Germany during the Korean War, was a member of the Honorary Guard and worked as a lineman.

Kenny returned home from the Army and worked for a short time at a printing company in Waterloo before returning to Montezuma where he began working at Sig Manufacturing for a few years. Kenny was united in marriage to LaNeva Aalbers on June 21, 1958 at the Presbyterian Church in New Sharon. They became the parents of three children, Cynthia, Curtis and Kyle. Kenny then began working for Sutherland Printing for the next 48 years and had worked his way up to foreman.

Kenny joined the Montezuma Volunteer Fire Department where he was a loyal and committed Fireman who responded to every call he could get to. Kenny served the Fire Department from 1969 to 1989, and in 1971 was awarded Fireman of The Year for his service and dedication.

Kenny would not stay still after retiring from Sutherland Printing, and worked at night for Rinehart Manufacturing.  Kenny still felt like he needed more to do, so he began working for Brownells in 2011 where he continued for the next 12 years until his health failed at age 90.

Kenny enjoyed mowing yards, fishing, hunting, especially pheasant hunting, golfing, mushroom hunting, going to car shows and most of all his family. He taught the grandkids how to fish along with giving them lawn mower rides, and loved attending their school events. He was a 50-year member of the Presbyterian Church, serving as a Deacon, Trustee and Elder.  He also was a charter member of the Jaycee's, Lion's Club, Montezuma Fire Department, and the Blakeley Stevens American Legion Post 169.  Kenny was a mentor to many people and was very active with community youth.

Kenny is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Glenda, two babies in infancy, and his sister, Fern Taylor.

Kenny is survived by his wife, LaNeva, of Montezuma; his children, Cynthia (Sid) Pinney of Ocala, Fl., Curtis Gauley of Montezuma and Kyle Gauley of Pella; his grandchildren, Creighton Pinney, Megan Gauley, Andrew Gauley, Haiden Gauley, Thomas Gauley, Connor Gauley, Henry Gauley and Owen Gauley; two nephews, Stanley Taylor and Craig (Laurie) Taylor; along with many other relatives and friends.
