Leslie Staecker, 65 of Grinnell and formerly of Montezuma passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at the Pella Comfort Hospice House in Pella. As was Leslie's wish, his body has been cremated. A burial will be held at 10:00 am Monday, August 3, 2020 at the Jackson Township Cemetery in Montezuma. An informal gathering will be held at a later time at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in the family's name to be determined at a later time. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of Montezuma is in charge of arrangements.

Leslie Charles Staecker, the son of Clifton and Faye (Richman) Staecker, was born on July 16, 1955 in Grinnell, Iowa. He was a 1973 graduate of Montezuma High School where he was co-salutatorian and attended University of Iowa for nine months on a full scholarship. Leslie was a hard worker and held jobs with Jeldwen, Kinze Manufacturing, EPC and Van Wyk Trucking. Leslie was very intelligent and enjoyed learning new things and helping his niece and other family members with school work on multiple levels. His favorite class at Montezuma High School was Mr. Jones' Science class doing experiments and especially building and launching the model rockets. He enjoyed reading Science Fiction and was very good at reading instructions and putting things together no matter how difficult it would be.

His family includes his sister, Pat "Patty" Johnson of Grinnell; nieces/nephews, Scott Johnson of Des Moines, Matthew Johnson of Killduff and Jennifer Johnson of Newton; great nieces, Alexa Rutherford and Amber Johnson and great nephew, Caleb Johnson.

Leslie was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Robert Brayton.
