Marjorie Byerly, 95 of Grinnell and formerly of Deep River, passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon, December 26, 2018 at the St. Francis Manor in Grinnell. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am Monday, December 31, 2018 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma. Burial will be held in the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery in Brooklyn. Visitation will be held from one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to PALS.

Marjorie Irene Byerly, the daughter of John and Verna (Hartsock) Johnson, was born on November 26, 1923 near Forest Home at Montezuma, Iowa. She was raised on the farm and attended and graduated from Guernsey High School. She received her teacher's certificate and taught for five years at country schools. Marjorie married Gerald Byerly on October 3, 1947 at Barnes City, Iowa. She taught for another year and was an active farmwife and busy raising their three children, Marvin, Bonita and Dixie. They moved to their Deep River farm in 1952 and continued their life there involving a small dairy farm. Marjorie and Gerald did woodworking projects together and sold them at flea markets and the Brooklyn Flag Store after their retirement. At one time, they enjoyed square dancing and attending functions at the What Cheer Opera House. They moved to Grinnell in 2011 and Gerald passed away in 2013. Family was very important to Marjorie and she enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Marjorie is survived by her two daughters, Bonita (John) Bartachek and Dixie (Doug) Hansen; seven grandchildren, Dawn (Bryan) McGlothlin, Phil (Amy) Bartachek, Nicole (Mac) Dhooge, Brian (Rachael) Bartachek, Chris (Jodi) Hansen, Curt (Holli) Hansen, Craig (Kylie) Hansen; 19 great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

She w+as preceded in death by her parents; her husband Gerald and her son, Marvin.
