Mary Lou Mann, 90 of rural Malcom passed away Thursday, February 15, 2024 at the St. Francis Manor in Grinnell. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am Monday, February 19, 2024 at the First Presbyterian Evangelical Church in Montezuma. Private burial will be held in the Jackson Township Cemetery in Montezuma. Visitation will be held Sunday, February 18, 2024 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the First Presbyterian Evangelical Church in Montezuma. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Evangelical Church or Care Initiatives Hospice. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of Montezuma is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Lou Mann, the daughter of Harvey and Ethel (Warren) Fisk, was born on September 12, 1933 in New Sharon, Iowa. She attended country school in the Montezuma area and   graduated from Montezuma High School in 1951.   Mary Lou was united in marriage to Eugene Mann on October 6, 1951 at the Montezuma Methodist Church.  They lived on a farm and Mary Lou helped her husband farm and they became the parents of five children, Vickie, David, Nancy, John and Mark.  While being a busy wife and mother, she also became the bookkeeper at the Malcom Coop until 1979.  She then began working for the Poweshiek County Health Department in the clerical and bookkeeping departments, later managing the Lifeline with the Grinnell Hospital.  She retired and started the Pleasant Country Bed and Breakfast in their home and enjoyed doing this for many years.  Mary Lou loved to sew, cook, read and travel.  Family was the most important part of her life.  She attended as many grandchildren events as she could.  Mary Lou was a 50 year member of the Holly Chapter of the Malcom Eastern Star, held a grand office, was a member of the Lura Dickson Guild, participated in the Jolly Bunch Neighbor Club, was a member of the First Presbyterian Evangelical Church and First Presbyterian Women, holding every office.

Mary Lou is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eugene; her son, David Mann; her grandson, Luke Mann; her brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Donna Fisk,  and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marjorie and Ralph McBride.

Mary Lou is survived by her children, Vickie Hopkins of Troy, MO,  Nancy (Glenn) Carper of Ames, IA,  John (Robin) Mann of Malcom, IA, and Mark Mann of Buffalo, MN; her grandchildren, Bradley (Tiffany) Hopkins, Casey (Holly) Hopkins, Niki (Zach) Stuart, Jessica (Skyler) Nesheim, Clayton (Cristy) Carper, Nathan (Carly) Carper, Matthew (Megan) Mann, Adam (Lyndie) Mann, Briana (Tony) Treptau, Austin (Kayla) Mann, Connor (Jamie) Mann, and Dawson Mann; 20 great grandchildren; her daughter-in-law, Vicki Van Renterghem;  her sister, Sherrill (Ray) Anderson, as well as many other nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends.
