Nettie Freeborn, 91 of Montezuma passed away on Friday, September 5, 2025 at Montezuma Specialty Care.  A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma.  A visitation and coffee time will be held one hour prior to the service at 10:00 am at the funeral home.  Memorials may be directed to the Blakley-Stevens American Legion Auxiliary.  Holland-Coble Funeral Home of Montezuma is in charge of the arrangements.

Nettie Mae Williamson Freeborn, the daughter of James and Lila (Harbison) Williamson was born on May 16, 1934 in Montezuma, Iowa. She attended Country School Union 1 through the eighth grade graduating from Montezuma High School with the class of 1951. After graduation, Nettie worked in Montezuma at the Ben Franklin Store. She went on to become a Dental Assistant and later retired from Brownells Inc. On July 6, 1956, Nettie was united in marriage to Everett Freeborn Jr. at the Montezuma United Methodist Church. To this union they became the parents of Ruth Ann, James Everett and William David. Nettie was a stay-at-home mom until all her children were in school.

Nettie was a member of the Montezuma United Methodist Church and volunteered to help with many functions. She also belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary. She was recently awarded for serving 45 years in the American Legion Auxiliary. She found enjoyment in working with flowers, gardening and bird watching. She always looked forward to her regularly scheduled coffee time with friends and retirees of Brownells Inc. She also found time to take a few bus trips and ride the train to California and New Mexico to visit family. She also enjoyed keeping busy with her grandchildren and going to all of their activities.

Her legacy will be honored by her children, Ruth Van Dee of Deep River, Jim (Julie) Freeborn of Montezuma and Bill (Jana) Freeborn of New Sharon; her grandchildren, Sarah (Brandon) McCue, Wyatt (Jamie) Van Dee, Kyle (Haley) Freeborn, Kayla (Bobby) Hayes, Katie (Bryan) Leitzinger, Beau (Olivia) Freeborn, Rachel (Dylan) Wiedner; 13 great grandchildren; a brother, Jim (Norma) Williamson of Montezuma and her sister, Jo Ann ((Danny Nevarez) Clink of New Mexico.

Nettie was preceded in death by her husband, Everett "Junior" Freeborn; a brother, Raymond Williamson; a daughter-in-law, Gina Freeborn along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
