Norma Lorene (Fisher) Alpers died Thursday, July 9, 2026 at the Mahaska Health Partnership Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa.

A visitation will be held Monday, July 13, 2026, from 9:30a.m - 10:30a.m. at the Gibson Presbyterian Church with a funeral service to follow starting at 10:30a.m.

Norma Lorene (Fisher) Alpers was born August 30, 1929, in Gibson township. She was
the daughter of Cloyd Clover and Amy Melissa (Rose) Fisher. She was the fifth of eight
children. A younger brother Cloyd (Junior) Fisher survives her.
Norma attended Country School through high school, living with her Grandmother Rose.
On February 28, 1959, she married Virgel Henry Alpers in the Little Brown Church in
Nashua, Iowa. Virgel and Norma had two daughters Lisa (Tom) Sieren and Audrey
(Jamie) Bos. In addition, she is survived by two beloved grandsons Ross (Natalie)
Sieren and Aydan Bos; and an adored great grandson Beric Sieren.
Norma with her sister Nettie returned to school and attended William Penn College in
Oskaloosa to become teachers. She went on to teach country school in the Tri-County
area and beyond. In addition to teaching, she provided day-care for both grandsons,
years of substitute teaching and a stint in retail.
Norma was a Renaissance Woman. There was nothing she could not do or learn how to
do. She was the consummate homemaker: she cooked, canned, gardened, re-modeled,
and helped care for their prized Arabian horses. She was a master seamstress, quilter,
embroiderer, and she crocheted. The two large, crocheted altar pieces at Gibson
Presbyterian Church of the 23 rd Psalm and the Lord's Prayer were her handiwork.
Norma was an independent, well-read, and opinionated woman. She was active in her
community, church, schools, and her children and family's pursuits. She was a woman
of great faith and someone you could always count on. She always looked forward to
County Fair time, showing her handiwork, flowers, and cooking, and of course watching
the Harness Races.
She led a full and contented life and considered herself very blessed.
