Patricia Smith, 83, of What Cheer died, Monday, December 23, 2024. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 am on Monday, December 30, 2024 at the Holland-Funeral Home in What Cheer. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 29, 2024 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. Burial will be held privately in the McFarlan Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.

Patricia Louise Smith 83 of What Cheer, Iowa. Passed away Monday December 23,2024 peacefully at her home surrounded by her family.

Patricia Louise Smith, daughter of Arvene and Mary (Noe) Garber   was born on October 22, 1941, in Newton, Iowa. Attended school in Barnes City and What Cheer Iowa. After school she worked as a Nurse's Aide at Mahaska Hospital. While living in rural What Cheer Patricia met the love of her life, George LeRoy Smith and they were united in marriage June 23,1962. Patty and LeRoy were blessed with three children, Douglas Arvene, Larry Milo, Christine Louise.

Patty worked several part time jobs which included detasseling, sorting corn, Dollar General, Casey's along with owning her own business Pat's Place in What Cheer, Iowa.

Patty enjoyed gardening, baking, spending time with family, fishing, road adventures, shopping "especially Black Friday" and spoiling her grandkids.

They attended the Baptist church in What Cheer for years but later attended Union Mills Church in Union Mills, Iowa.

Her legacy will be honored by her husband of 63 years, George LeRoy Smith; her children, Larry (Patty) Smith of New Sharon and Christine of What Cheer; 7 grandchildren; Brandie Elder, Evelynn Sherwood, Bret Adkins, Kaylee McKee, Vanessa Noel, Zachary Howard, Douglas Smith; 13 great grandchildren. Brother Larry (Dianne) Garber of Rosehill, Nancy Garber of What Cheer; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, coworkers and friends.

Patty was preceded in death by her parents and her son Douglas Arvene Smith, one brother, Ronald Garber, father-in-law Milo Smith and mother-in-law, Ruby Smith.
