Phyllis Shearer, 75 of Oskaloosa and formerly of Montezuma passed away Saturday morning, October 19, 2019 at the Mahaska Health Partnership Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. As was her wish, her body has been cremated and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the MHP Hospice Serenity House and may be sent to the Holland-Coble Funeral Home, in care of Phyllis Shearer, P.O. Box 727, Montezuma, Iowa 50171. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of Montezuma is in charge of arrangements.

Phyllis Jean Shearer, the daughter of Harry and Leota (Staton) Thacker, was born on December 2, 1943 in Des Moines, Iowa. She attended Des Moines Lincoln High School. On May 27, 1978, Phyllis was united in marriage to Clarence "Sonny" Shearer in Montezuma. Together they raised four children, Paula, Shelly, Cheryl and J.R. Sonny and Phyllis owned a partnership in a Steakhouse in Montezuma before moving to Texas. While living in Texas they owned and operated Mr. Sub-Nut Restaurant. In 2002, Sonny and Phyllis moved back to Montezuma to play an active role in the lives of her grandchildren. Phyllis enjoyed doing crafts, cross stitch, traveling and she loved to dance. She also enjoyed watching the Home Shopping Network and loved her fireplaces and watching the Hallmark Channel. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and attended Community Hope Church in Montezuma.

Her legacy will be honored by her children, Paula Henkle of Montezuma, Shelly Bennett of Cedar Rapids, Cheryl (D.J.) Jaramillo of San Antonio, TX and J.R. (Kara) Shearer of Montezuma; 11 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; two sisters, Carol Holt of Minneapolis and Sharon (Roger) Shoemaker of Des Moines; a sister-in-law, Jo (Joe) Barrow of Montezuma and many other nieces, nephews and friends.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sonny; six siblings, Barbara Bruntmyer, Harry Thacker Jr., Alfred Thacker, Jo Ann Thacker, Elaine Delmege and her twin brother, Phillip Thacker and a son-in-law, Rande Henkle.
