Randy Van Dalen, 70 died Monday, February 26, 2024 at the Good Samaritan Society in Ottumwa, Iowa.    A Memorial/Visitation will be held on Friday, March 1, 2024 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in What Cheer.  Burial will be held privately in the Tioga Cemetery near Rose Hill. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Randy Lee Van Dalen was born on September 18, 1953 in Oskaloosa, Iowa to Bob and Shirley Rockwell Van Dalen.  Randy attended school in Oskaloosa and graduated in 1971.  He then lived in Ft. Worth, Texas for the majority of his life as a truck driver.  He was the father of three children, Channa, Shandy and Shad.  Randy moved back to Iowa in 2000 to care for his mother and be closer to his family.  Randy was onery, loved to pick on people, respected his parents, and most of all loved his children and grandchildren. Like every man, Randy made mistakes in life he later regretted. What set his apart was the fact he learned lessons from those mistakes and shamelessly helped other in his life not to make those same mistakes. Randy preferred not to lay his burdens on others. He took pride in his appearance and never shied away from helping those in need.  He really enjoyed watching the Chicago Bears, loved ACDC music and had fun collecting dragons, knives, whips and swords.  Randy was very devoted to his best friend and companion, his dog Taz.

The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff at the Good Samaritan Society.  They have loved and cared for him the last few years even though he was Mr. Sassy Pants. We really appreciate the love and care he received there.

Randy is preceded in death by his parents; a niece, Olivia Van Dalen; his sister-in-law, Lori Van Dalen; and his best friend, Taz.

Randy is survived by his children, Channa (Gary) Daniels, Shandy (KC) Crook, and Shad (Hajar) William; his grandchildren, Waiverly (Scott) Sesterhenn, Randy (Alicen) Daniels, Kaylee (Traton) Daniels, Dalton Daniels, Serenity McDonald and Aven Crook; two great grandchildren, Stefan and Maxime Sesterhenn; his brothers, Terry Van Dalen and Bobby Van Dalen; his sisters, Vicki (Dean) Tomlin and Connie Van Dalen; as well as many other friends and relatives.
