Richard "Catfish  " Doonan, 68 of Barnes City passed away Thursday morning, February 9, 2023 at his home in Barnes City.  A celebration of life luncheon will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at the Barnes City Legion beginning at noon.  A private burial will be held in the Barnes City Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers,   memorials may be designated for the Barnes City Cemetery in Richard's name.  Holland-Coble Funeral Home of Montezuma is in charge of the arrangements.

Richard Mark Doonan, son of Larry and Nancy Mason Doonan, was born on March 1, 1954 at Fort Polk, Louisiana.  He graduated from North Mahaska in 1972 and was a decorated athlete in football and baseball.  After high school, Richard worked at the Barnes City Coop.    In 1976, Richard  moved to Brighton and began working for Lester Buildings.  Richard married Kim Landstrum in 1980  and to this union three sons were born, Dustin, Jacob and Brett.  He  moved back to the Barnes City area and worked with Dennis McKay and later  Steve Deucore doing carpenter work.  He loved fishing, K.C. Royals games, was a Nascar and  Bill Elliott  fan, and the K.C. Chiefs.    His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his children,  Dustin (Dana) Doonan of Wayland, Jacob (Arian) Doonan of Gibson,  and Brett Doonan of Barnes City;  six grandchildren, Brehannah (Tim), Dylan, Lily (Blade), Milee, Riley and Madeline;  great grandchildren, Oaklynn and Rebel; his siblings,  Mike (Brenda), Kelli (Craig) Jackson,  Jim  (Ginger), and   Jason (Karen);  as well as many other relatives and friends.
