Funeral Services for Bob Sutfin, 66 of rural Montezuma passed away Thursday afternoon, April 2, 2026 at UnityPoint Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at the Community Hope Church in Montezuma. Visitation will begin after 12:00 pm Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at the Community Hope Church with the family present to greet friends and relatives from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Rochell Sutfin and will be given to several local organizations. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of Montezuma is in charge of arrangements.

Robert "Bob" Emmett Sutfin II was born June 3, 1959, to Robert and Anita (Riddle) Sutfin. He spent his early years in Chicago, and in 1973 his family traded city streets for open skies when they moved to a farm near Malcom, Iowa, raising hogs and cattle. That move shaped the steady, hardworking life Bob would build—one rooted in family, home, and the land. Bob graduated from Montezuma Community School in 1977 and went on to complete a Farm Management degree from Ellsworth Community College. At 21, he bought the home that became his pride and ongoing project, a true labor of love marked by many remodels and additions over the years. In Malcom, while working at the elevator, Bob met the love of his life, Rochell Rena Brown, at the Mini Mart. They were married July 28, 1984, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, and together they raised two children, Crystal and Chad. Bob's working years reflected his can-do spirit and willingness to learn whatever the day required—he worked at the Malcom elevator, Mobil gas truck, Cube Pad, Vannoys, Montezuma Manufacturing, Hicks Heating and Plumbing, and Sutfin Furniture. He retired from Poweshiek County in 2021 after operating a maintainer for 20+ years.

In his free time, Bob felt most at home outdoors—hunting and fishing, riding ATVs, camping, gardening and coming back to the shop for woodworking projects. His favorite "camping" was at the Iowa State Fair, where he was well known to his neighbors and enjoyed visiting with them—often with a clam digger in hand. He and Rochell also enjoyed traveling together, and for their wedding anniversary they celebrated with a trip to Hawaii. Friends and family knew they could count on him: he showed up, pitched in, and took pride in doing things the right way. He never met a stranger, and he treated everyone with the same steady kindness and respect. But the role he cherished most was being with his family, especially as a devoted husband, father, and Papa. His family was the light of his life.

Bob is survived by his wife, Rochell; his children, Crystal (Brad) VanderLinden of New Sharon and Chad (Kinsey) Sutfin of Montezuma; and his five grandchildren, Natalee and Paige VanderLinden, and Emmett, Avery, and Kade Sutfin; his mother and father-in-law, Barb and Murray Brown, his siblings, Kathy (Dave) Grier, Debbie (Don) Taylor, Danny (Brenda) Sutfin, Julie (Jim) Freeborn, Sean (Bambi) Sutfin, Bill (Tammy) Sutfin; brothers and sisters-in-law, Nina (Marvin) Burkett, Kristy (Bud) Doane and Shane (Amy) Brown; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his brother-in-law, Rex Cheney; his nephew, Mason Brown; his great-niece, Malani Edwards; and many aunts and uncles.
