Robert (Bob) Hagerty of rural Deep River, Iowa bravely passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2025 at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.

A Celebration of Life and luncheon will be held on Saturday, March 15 at the Manatts Community Center in Brooklyn from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Robert Steven Hagerty was born to John and Joanna Hagerty (Deep River) on July 3, 1950.  He graduated from BGM High School in 1968, and then attended Marshalltown Community College graduating in 1970.  Bob continued on to Iowa State where he graduated in 1972 with an Animal Science degree.

Bob was married to Barbara Blake, his college sweetheart, in 1971, and they were blessed with two sons, Jared and Justin.  Bob and Barb moved to the St. Louis area where he worked for Swift and Company for seven years as a hog buyer before returning to farm his family's farms.  He raised livestock and row crops.  During this time, he helped his sons produce good quality show hogs for 4H and FFA at the county and state fair.  Bob was an active steward and manager of his family's farms.

After retiring from farming, he was employed by Rohrer Brothers in Victor until 2015.

Bob was an avid hunter with his sons when younger and enjoyed fall deer hunting trips with his hunting buddies.  He also enjoyed his hobby of raising and racing his own racing pigeons with his Des Moines pigeon club.

With his sons, relatives, and friends, Bob planned many fun target and trapshooting events on the farm.  Bob and Barb enjoyed many fun trips with his brothers and their wives, and also spending time with his beloved grandchildren.  They were such a highlight in his later years, and each held a special place in his heart.

His legacy will be cherished by his wife, Barbara of Deep River; his sons, Jared (Carrie) of Tiffin, IA,  and Justin (Lauren) of Haymarket, VA; five grandchildren, Brody, Lauren, Laiken, Reese and Siena Hagerty; brothers, Joseph (Melodie) Hagerty of Muscatine, IA,  Matt (Tammy) Hagerty of Johnston, IA, and many special nieces, nephews and brother and sisters-in-law.

Bob was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph; his very special granddaughter, Laiken; brother-in-law, Cleon Melsa; and his parents, John and Joanna Hagerty.

In honor of his brave granddaughter's battle with childhood cancer at the age of 10, the family would like memorials given for Laiken to her LIVE LIKE LAIKEN Foundation to help fight and donate to the University of Iowa pediatric cancer families and St. Jude's for pediatric cancer research.
