Robert Templeton, 89, of New Sharon, IA passed away June 13, 2024 at the UnityPoint Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am Monday, June 17, 2024 at the New Life Fellowship Church in New Sharon with a luncheon to follow the service. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. A private family burial will take place at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to New Life Fellowship Church, New Sharon Fire and Rescue, or a charity of the donor's choice.

Robert J. Templeton, the son of Floyd and Hilda Templeton, was born and raised on a farm near Jamaica, IA.  He graduated from Jamaica HS, was a paratrooper in the US Army, and then graduated in Ag Education from Iowa State University.  He met Alberta Hunwardsen, also a student at ISU, and they were married in 1957.  Bob taught Vocational Agriculture at Wall Lake and Newell, then began a Master's program in Educational Administration at the University of South Dakota.  He served as a secondary principal at Bayard, Clarksville, and North Linn.  He was then superintendent at North Mahaska for 11 years.  After retiring, he continued in the field a few more years as an Interim Superintendent at Exira, Redfield, and Sigourney-Keota.

Bob lived a full life and enjoyed fishing and was always working on a home fix-it project.  He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge.   In retirement Bob kept busy with gardening, lawn mowing, feeding the birds (always on the look-out for the rose-breasted grosbeak and indigo bunting), and chasing that pesky squirrel away.  Solving the world's problems during the men's morning coffee time became a habit. He wasn't much of a TV-watcher, but wouldn't miss the continuing saga of Oak Island.  He was also a loyal fan of the ISU men's basketball team, holding season tickets for over 30 years, until deciding the long drive to Ames, usually at night, in Iowa winter weather, was just a bit too much.

Survivors include his wife Alberta, children Sherilyn (Mitchell) Hoyer, David (Reneé) Templeton, Kathryn Robbins, and Sheila Templeton.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Barbara Vekre.
