Bert Davis, 82 of New Sharon passed away Sunday, January 17, 2021 at the Mahaska Health Partnership in Oskaloosa. Graveside services will begin at 11:00 am Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at the Friends Cemetery in New Sharon. Visitation will begin from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at the funeral home with no family present. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Love Train. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of New Sharon is in charge of arrangements.

Robert Wayne Davis, the son of Cecil and Anna (Polka) Davis, was born on May 20, 1938 in New Sharon, Iowa. He was a 1956 graduate of New Sharon High School. Following high school, Bert worked on the railroad and also for E.M. Guyer. In 1958, Bert was going to be drafted by the United States Army which would have made him the first person in Mahaska County to be drafted but decided to volunteer for the service instead. Following Bert's honorable discharge in 1961, he was offered a job to help build the North Mahaska School. He then worked for the Texaco Station for a few years. On September 26, 1969, Bert was united in marriage to Victoria Woods at the Union Mills Christian Church. Together they raised two children, Steve and Stacey. Bert began working for Clow Valve Company in 1969 retiring in 2005 as the Machine Shop General Forman. Bert was an outdoor enthusiast and enjoyed his time hunting, fishing and camping. His grandchildren meant the world to him and rarely missed an activity that they were involved in especially the many trips to the state tournament games. He was a 35-year member of the New Sharon Fire and Rescue, the Prairie Knolls Country Club, the New Sharon United Methodist Church and served on the New Sharon City Council for eight years. Bert held his pilot's license for several years and was also a member of the New Sharon Flyers Club.

Bert's legacy will be remembered by his wife of 51 years, Victoria Davis of New Sharon; his children, Steve (Sabrena) Davis of New Sharon and Stacey Hudson of Rolla, Missouri; four grandchildren, Cody (Julie) Davis, Kelsey (Brandon) Schakel, Blake Hudson and Kate Hudson; two great grandchildren, Finley and Everly Schakel; a brother, Edwin (Janice Vander Linden) Davis of New Sharon; sister-in-law, Fran Davis of Reinbeck and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Anna Davis; a brother, Lloyd Davis; son-in-law, Eric Hudson and parents-in-law, Virgil and Donna Woods.
