Sam Sharer, 65 of Montezuma passed away Wednesday evening, May 17, 2023 at UnityPoint Health-Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. Private graveside services will be held at a later date. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of Montezuma is in charge of arrangements.

Sam Steven Sharer was born on November 19, 1957, to Forrest and Mauretta Freeborn Sharer at Grinnell. He attended Montezuma Schools and graduated with the class of 1976. He worked for Dean Doonan Construction and Donaldson's in Grinnell. Sam then moved to Missouri and worked as a parts manager at a marina on the Lake of the Ozarks. In a few months he became the manager of the marina. Sam ran the marina for several years before moving back to Montezuma to be closer to family. Sam liked to collect guns, had a welding and fabrication business on the side, and enjoyed talking to the old guys at the bar and telling stories.

Sam is survived by his brother, Lee (Penni) Sharer of Montezuma, his sister, Vicki (Mike) Fahlenkamp of Montezuma, and his half-brother, Larry Bryan of Montezuma; his nephews, Wes (Shanel) Fahlenkamp, Bart (Sheri) Sharer, and his niece, Bri (John) Haynes; his great nephews and nieces, Levi Fahlenkamp, Seth Fahlenkamp, Alana Fahlenkamp, Jadyn Sharer, and Taylor Haynes; and four great great nephews and nieces, Vondre, Kamari, Taliyah and Forrest; as well as many other relatives and friends.

Sam is preceded in death by his parents and two nephews, Troy Fahlenkamp and Ben Sharer.
