Scott Johnson, 46 of Des Moines died at his home on Thursday, November 3, 2022. Private family services will be held in the Searsboro Community Church. Burial with Military Rites will be held in the West Liberty Cemetery near Montezuma. A Visitation will be held on Friday, November 11, 2022 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Searsboro Community Church with his family to greet friends and relatives. Memorial contributions may be made in the family's name to help with final expenses. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of Montezuma is in charge of arrangements.

Scott Charles Johnson, son of Charles and Pat Johnson, was born November 18th, 1975 in Grinnell. Scotty, as he was known to some, attended Lynnville-Sully High School and proudly graduated in 1995. Scott joined the Army National Guard in his junior year and attended basic training during the summer before his senior year. After graduation, he received his AIT (Advanced Infantry Training) at Fort LeonardWood in Missouri. He specialized in mechanics, where one of his sergeants stated, "That guy could fix anything". He was in the National Guard for 12 years, with time served in both Iowa and Arkansas. He moved on to Mountain Home, Arkansas, where he worked at Mountain Muffler, while living near some of his Dad's family there. He also lived in Omaha, Nebraska, where he worked at the VA Hospital, serving patients there who were also veterans.

Scott was loved by many. He loved the color pink and wore it proudly. He was his own person and was an inspiration to many he met, showing them that they can love themselves for who they are and be proud of it. He loved music of all kinds, mostly classic rock. He introduced his brother and sister and many others to the band Rehab. He loved strawberry-rhubarb pie, history, thrift store shopping and finding one-of-a-kind finds in hole-in-the-wall places.

He is survived by his mother Pat Johnson of Grinnell, his father and stepmother, Charles and Deborah Johnson of Sully, his brother and sister-in-law Matthew and Amy Johnson of Killduff, and his sister and future brother-in-law Jennifer Johnson and Brandon Van Sant of Newton, and his step-siblings Kristin Cantrell of Altoona and Dan Cantrell of Ankeny. Scott is also survived by his nieces and nephew, Alexa Rutherford, Caleb Johnson, and Amber Johnson whom Scott nicknamed Bud, Bug, and Boogie. Also surviving are his paternal grandmother Nira Wilkinson of Mountain Home, Arkansas, his uncle and aunt Michael and Jessann Johnson of Lynnville, his aunt Charleen Ahrenstorff of Mountain Home, and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather Delno (Bill) Johnson, his maternal grandparents Cliff and Faye Staecker, and uncles George Johnson and Les Staecker.
