Sherry VerMeer, 61 of Beacon passed away Friday evening, August 7, 2026 at the Stone Cottage Care Center in Sigourney. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am Wednesday, August 12, 2026 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in New Sharon. Burial will be held in the Union Mills Cemetery at Union Mills. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Tuesday, August 11, 2026 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in New Sharon. Memorial contributions may be made in Sherry's name and will be used to treat the Stone Cottage Care Center residents and staff.  Please make checks payable to Sherry's sister or Sherry's niece, Diane Groves or Amanda Van Der Veer. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of New Sharon is in charge of arrangements.

Sherry Lynn VerMeer, the daughter of Linda Ferguson and Nathan Stouwie, was born on June 3, 1965 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. She worked as a waitress at Bond's Restaurant in New Sharon before graduating from North Mahaska High School with the class of 1984.  Sherry was married to Mike VerMeer in 1988 and to this union two children were born, Mallory and Justin Dean "JD". They later divorced. Sherry worked at Diematic in Montezuma, Enduro in Pella, then Pella Corp. before going to VerMeer Manufacturing. She also attended nursing school at Indian Hills Community College before working in the maternity ward at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines for several years. Sherry's last job was at the Christian Opportunity Center in Pella which she loved and became very close to the residents. She loved the outdoors and spent many hours floating down the river, camping, mushroom hunting, listening to music and above all being around her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Mallory VerMeer and Justin "JD" VerMeer; her grandchildren, Angel, Hayven, Kiara, Autumn and Hunter; her mother, Linda Ferguson of Oskaloosa; her sister, Diane (John) Groves of New Sharon; her niece, Amanda Van Der Veer of Sigourney; her nephew, Luke Groves of New Sharon; her great nieces and nephews, Brooke, Adicen, Kadence, Ben and Matthew; special friends, Brenda, Jennie and Wyatt along with many other relatives and friends.

Sherry was preceded in death by her father, Nathan Stouwie; a sister, Angie Van Der Veer and a grandson, Garret.
